Overview
The right primer for your project?
The primer ensures optimal adhesion of the coating and smooths out uneven surfaces. In addition, it provides protection against rust. Choose the right primer according to your material surface as the perfect base for your project.
Why do you need to prime?
A primer acts as a bonding agent that ensures adhesion between two materials. At the same time, it works as a filler that evens out small irregularities.
The primer forms the foundation for the coating. It is often referred to as "primer" and its purpose is to optimize the bonding conditions for subsequent material layers.
Always wear your protective equipment and a spray mask when priming.
Which products do you need for priming?
Before you start priming, make sure you have all the necessary products:
- Protective equipment: Respirator, safety glasses, gloves, protective suit
- Mixing: Mixing cups, stir sticks to prepare the primer
- Application: Brush, paint roller
- Spraying: Spray gun
Important! Always wear your protective equipment when priming.
Priming explained step by step
Priming involves the following steps:
- Cleaning: Clean the surfaces again from sanding dust, grease and silicone. For plastic surfaces use PLC - Plastic Cleaner and for all other surfaces use WDC - Special Cleaner.
- Selecting: For plastic surfaces use PP100 - Plastic Primer,
for all other surfaces use AP101 - Universal Primer.
Bare or galvanized metal and aluminum surfaces must be pre-treated
with EP100 - Etching Primer.
Important! SPEEDLINER® and Speedliner Pro coating material always requires PP100 or AP101 primer. Other primers will not work.
- Mixing: Mix the primer in a mixing cup. Tint it with a small amount of liquid pigment to increase contrast when applying, so you can see which areas are already primed. Stir with a stir stick.
- Applying: After mixing, apply the primer immediately. This can be done with a brush, roller or spray gun. For large areas, we recommend using a spray gun. Practice on other objects before starting your actual project.
- Drying: After applying the primer, wait at least 20 minutes and no more than 12 hours before applying the coating. After 12 hours the primer must be reapplied.
Afterwards, the coating can be applied.
