Step-by-step guide:

Fix your leaking shower tray step by step

All steps to seal it yourself: prep, sanding, priming and coating—with practical tips for a durable result.

Step 0: Check tray suitability

Most trays are PVC or ABS (fine). Rare plastics (e.g., PST) should be tested for strength/adhesion first.

We recommend contacting our application technician if unsure.

Step 1: Masking

Spraying needs a bit more masking.

Masking the shower tray

Apply a 20 mm tape parallel to the tray rim, then cover the gap with a 30 mm tape. This master tape is removed after coating. Protect all other areas with paper/film. Seal the drain.

Step 2: Sand the tray

Clean and sand thoroughly with 80-grit. Also sand the edges; don’t damage the master tape.

Sanding the surfaces

If needed, repair cracks with a plastic stapler, seal with PU sealant and support soft bottoms with expanding foam. More info: repair a cracked shower tray.

Step 3: Clean & prime

Vacuum dust. Use PLC cleaner or brake cleaner to remove grease/wax.

Cleaning before priming

Brush on PP100 plastic primer thinly and evenly on all plastic surfaces (floor, sides, rims).

Apply primer

Let dry 20–30 min (max 2 h). After 2 h, re-prime if needed.

Observe drying time

Step 4: Mix coating material

For an average tray, the SPEEDLINER PRO 1-bottle set is sufficient.

Mix components

Pour liquid pigment into component B and shake 10 s. Pour colored B into A and shake ~60 s.

Important: Mix only one pack at a time and use immediately.

Screw spray gun onto component A and start coating.

Connect spray unit

Step 5: Spray

Compressor 4–4.5 bar. Test on cardboard and fine-tune pressure.

Spray edges/corners and drain first (optionally brush these areas).

Spray detail areas

Sides ≈ 1.0 mm, floor/flat areas ≈ 1.5 mm film thickness.

Even surface coating

Thicker builds are possible any time (2nd/3rd pass without waiting).

Multiple passes for build

Step 6: Short break

Let it set

Let it set for about 20 minutes.

Step 7: Remove master tape

Carefully remove at a 45° angle.

Remove master tape

Step 8: Topcoat (optional)

White coatings are not UV-stable (yellowing). Topcoat prevents this; recommended for colors lighter than light grey.

Apply Topcoat after ~45 min up to 24 h without extra primer (we recommend ≥12 h). Rolls/brushes well.

Drying: touch-dry ~2 h, dry ~12 h; usable ~48–72 h; full properties ~3 weeks.

Step 9: Demask

Let the coated tray dry at least 12 h and keep away from water/moisture. Protection increases while curing and bonds permanently.

After 12 h remove film/paper/remaining tape.

All done!
