Coating a Land Rover with SPEEDLINER PRO – step by step

This guide explains every step to coat your vehicle’s bed: preparation, sanding, priming and spraying the coating. Practical tips & tricks at every step. Durable protection for your bed.

Step 1: Mask & disassemble

Remove add-on parts and the tailgate (if possible).

Step 1: Masking and disassembly

Protect vehicle areas with masking paper and film. We recommend a steel-wire tape as the master tape.

Step 2: Scuff sand surfaces

Clean floor, sides and tailgate, remove rust if needed and scuff sand.

Step 2: Scuff sanding

Recommendation: air sander or electric sander with cup brush.
Important: scuff sand only, do not sand to bare metal.

Step 3: Clean the surfaces

Use WDC universal cleaner to remove grease, wax and residues.

Step 3: Cleaning surfaces

Step 4: Apply primer

Step 4: Apply primer

Prime all surfaces to be coated with AP101 universal primer – by spray gun or brush.

Let primer dry for 20 minutes

Let AP101 dry at least 20 minutes, max 4 hours – then reapply if exceeded.

Step 5: Prepare coating material

Step 5: Prepare material

See processing guidelines for mix ratios (component A/B, pigment).

Step 6: Apply coating

Material amount per m² and the spray sequence are defined to achieve maximum protection.

Spraying – first pass

Spraying – additional areas

Most exposure: bed & tailgate → higher film thickness recommended.

Bed/tailgate at least 1.5 mm; side walls/edges at least 1 mm. Thicker layers are useful for heavy-duty use.

Step 7: Short drying time

Short drying time

After a brief dry, apply the desired texture.

Step 8: Apply texture

Texture influences slip resistance, etc.

Apply texture – structured surface

Spray from a greater distance to achieve the structure.

What You See Is What You Get: the texture will not change during curing.

Step 9: Remove master masking tape

After a short wait, carefully remove the master masking tape.

Remove masking tape

Hard-to-reach areas: wait about 2 hours. Steel wire tape can cut for up to 12 hours.

Step 10: Demasking

Let the coating dry at least 12 hours and protect from moisture.

Demask and reassemble

Remove masking, clean up, reinstall tailgate and add-ons.

Step 11: Curing

Finished!

Finished result – Land Rover bed protection

Protection continues to increase as it cures and bonds permanently to the vehicle.
