Coating a Hilux with SPEEDLINER PRO – step by step

All steps for hood and fender: preparation, scuff sanding, priming and coating. Practical tips help at every stage. Durable protection.

Step 1: Mask & disassemble

Remove add-on parts where possible.

Step 1: Masking and disassembly

Protect vehicle areas with masking paper/film. Steel-wire tape recommended as master tape.

Step 2: Scuff sand surfaces

Clean, remove rust if needed, and scuff sand.

Step 2: Scuff sanding the surfaces

Step 2: Scuff sanding the surfaces

Recommendation: air or electric sander with cup brush.
Important: scuff only, do not sand to bare metal.

Step 3: Clean the surfaces

WDC universal cleaner removes grease, wax and residues.

Step 4: Apply primer

Step 4: Apply primer

Prime all areas to be coated with AP101 universal primer (spray gun or brush).

Let primer dry at least 20 minutes

Let AP101 dry at least 20 minutes, max 4 hours — otherwise reapply.

Step 5: Prepare coating material

Step 5: Prepare material

Mix ratios (A/B, pigment) as per processing guidelines.

Step 6: Apply coating

Material amount per m² and spray sequence are defined to ensure maximum protection.

Spray coating – first pass

Spray coating – detail areas

Highest exposure at the front — choose a higher film thickness if needed.

Step 7: Short drying time

Short drying time

After a short dry, apply the desired texture.

Step 8: Apply texture

Texture affects slip resistance and appearance.

Spray texture – structured surface

Spray from a greater distance to create the structure. What You See Is What You Get — the texture will not change while curing.

Step 9: Remove master masking tape

After a short wait, carefully remove the master masking tape.

Remove masking tape

Hard-to-reach areas: wait ~2 hours. Steel wire tape can cut for up to 12 hours.

Step 10: Demasking

Let the coating dry at least 12 hours and protect from moisture.

Remove masking, clean up, reinstall add-on parts.

Step 11: Curing
