Overview
Do you need masking film or masking paper for your project?
With masking films and masking papers you can protect surfaces during coating and painting:
- Masking film: For covering large surfaces.
- Masking paper: For covering shapes and contours.
Why should you mask?
Masking film and masking paper protect non-painted surfaces from overspray and paint mist that inevitably occur during your work. Especially when working with spray cans or spray guns, overspray and paint mist are unavoidable.
By using the right masking method, you can protect certain parts of your car and save yourself time-consuming reworking and cleaning – especially when coating with SPEEDLINER® and SPEEDLINER Pro.
How to mask correctly
- Preparation – The area to be masked must be thoroughly cleaned and completely dry. Remove any dirt, dust or other impurities.
- Choosing the masking material: Decide between masking film or masking paper, or use both if needed.
- Taping: Cut the masking film with a film knife or the masking paper with scissors as needed. Place the masking material on the surface. Stick half of the tape on the masking material and press the other half evenly onto the surface. Avoid air bubbles in the tape. Place your thumb on the tape and tear it off at a 45° angle. This creates a “masking edge” on the masking material that you can stick onto the vehicle.
- Masking details: Mask specific details if necessary, such as windows, exterior mirrors, seals and doors or the tailgate.
- Check: Make sure all areas that are not to be painted are properly masked. The masking material should not have any open gaps.
