Step-by-step guide:

Sealing and hail protection for your motorhome explained step by step

In the guide we explain all the steps to seal your leaky caravan roof and protect it against hail. From preparation, sanding, priming to coating, we show you everything in detail. Practical tips & tricks help you at every step. Long-lasting protection for your camper, caravan, motorhome.

Step 1: Mask and scuff

Cover all areas that should not be coated with masking film and masking paper.

Masking the shower tray

Remove roof attachments and roof hatches. Then sand the roof surface with 80-grit sandpaper. A pneumatic sander with cup brush works even better.

Step 2: Taping

Protect roof hatch frames and all other attachments that cannot or should not be removed by taping.

Sanding the surfaces

Mask the edge of the roof. First apply masking tape and then the master tape, which you remove after coating. We recommend a steel wire tape as master tape. The wire is pulled through the coating after it has already dried. This gives you a cleanly cut coating edge.

Step 3: Clean the surface

Remove dust from the roof surface and use PLC – universal cleaner to remove all grease, waxes or other residues from the roof surface.

Cleaning before priming

Step 4: Apply primer

Use a brush, roller or spray gun to apply AP101 – universal primer in an evenly thin coat. Bare metal areas require a pre-primer with an etch primer.

Mix components

Let the primer dry for about 20 minutes before continuing, but no longer than 2 hours.

Allow to flash off

After 2 hours, the primer must be reapplied.

Step 5: Precoat hard-to-reach areas

All areas, edges, niches or attachments that are difficult to reach should be pre-painted with a brush. Even better and easier is to spray these with SPEEDTEX™.

Spray detail areas

For more information on the mixing ratio of component A, component B and the liquid color pigment, refer to the SPEEDTEX™ processing guidelines.

Step 5: Precoat hard-to-reach areas

Immediately afterwards you should prepare the SPEEDLINER Euro coating material. SPEEDLINER Euro consists of component A, component B and the liquid color pigment. First pour 120 ml of liquid color pigment into each component B and shake each for 20 seconds.

Evenly coat surfaces

Then pour the first tinted component B into component A. Mix both components with the Jiffy mixer for exactly 90 seconds and process immediately. For more information about the mixing ratio of component A, component B and the liquid color pigment, refer to the SPEEDLINER Euro processing guidelines.

Step 7: Spray on coating material

Use the SPEEDLINER hopper gun to coat the entire roof area.

Multiple passes for more build

What You See Is What You Get! The way the surface looks after application is how it will look later. The surface texture no longer changes during curing.

Step 8: Apply texture (optional)

The texture affects the appearance and slip resistance of your roof

Allow to set

Take a 5–10 minute break. Then spray SPEEDLINER Euro with the same air pressure from a greater spraying distance to achieve the desired texture.

Step 9: Remove master tape

Remove the master tape immediately. In places that are difficult to reach, wait about 2 hours before removing the tape. Make sure to peel it off carefully at a 45° angle. The steel wire tape can cut the coating for up to 12 hours.

Step 10: Demasking

After 2 hours you can remove the masking film, masking paper and the remaining masking tape. Do not walk on the coated roof surface for at least 24–36 hours.

Remove master tape

Step 11: Drying

Let your roof dry for at least 12 hours and protect it from water and moisture. During the drying process the protection becomes stronger and the material permanently bonds with your roof.

Done – that’s it!
